Filing an FIR

Due to Crime and Punishment Act 2027, you can file an FIR to punish the offender with up to 2 years in jail and or a fine up to Rs.10,000/-in case of Street Harassment that includes the following:

  • ” to make obsence show by using speech,word or gesture”
  • “to insult women in public spaces by committing molestation”
  • ” to hinder/obstruct anyone or stop his/her pathway or passage in public place”
  • ” condition when he/she is staying anywhere or walking on the road or traveling by any vehicle, or to commit riot, molestation, battery or misconduct”

Filing a police case requires evidence to make sure offender gets punished. If possible, gather information, get a picture. Try your best to get help from a by stander if they are willing to testify. In case of a drive-by offender, note down the license plate number. If harassment is done in the same place by same person then make sure you have a date and time in the letter.
